40,000 Killed in Auto Accidents Each Year
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), automobile accidents are now the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. More than 40,000 drivers, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians are killed motor vehicle accidents each year and an estimated three million sustain personal injuries that require emergency room treatment. In an attempt to promote road safety, the CDC has published the following advice:
1. Wear a seatbelt. In the event of a crash a seatbelt can reduce the chances of death by 50%
2. Make sure that children are strapped in and are using the appropriate safety seat
3.Always have children and young passenger travel in the back of a vehicle
4. Limit the time a teenage driver can be on the road at night
5. Motorcyclists and cyclists should always where helmets
6. Don’t drink and drive, even in small amounts
7. Don’t text or make unnecessary phone calls while driving
